Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a fungus that grows on birch trees in the cold forests of the northern hemisphere. It looks more like a lump of charred bark than a mushroom: black and cracked on the outside, with a rust-orange interior. Brewed, it makes a dark, earthy tea with a mild, slightly vanilla-like flavor. Our chaga is wildcrafted, gathered from the wild rather than cultivated, so availability varies with the harvest.
Traditional Use: Chaga has been brewed as a tea in Russia, Siberia, and Scandinavia for centuries, and was used in Finland as a coffee substitute during wartime shortages.
Ingredients: Wildcrafted chaga mushroom chunks (Inonotus obliquus).
Size: 4 oz.
Suggested use: Chunks: simmer a few small pieces in 3-4 cups of water for 1 hour or longer, then strain. Enjoy up to 1 cup daily.
Caution: Do not exceed 1 cup daily, and do not use for extended periods without consulting a healthcare provider. Chaga is naturally high in oxalates. Not for use by anyone who is pregnant or nursing, or by children. May interact with medications; consult a healthcare provider before use if you are taking any medication, especially blood-thinning, blood sugar, or immune-related medication, or if you are scheduled for surgery or have a medical condition. Avoid if allergic to mushrooms. Discontinue use if any adverse reaction occurs. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
