They Buried
This Science
and kept you dependent in the dark

For two centuries, the documented evidence of a force that moves between human beings – healing, perceiving, transmitting has been systematically suppressed. What follows is what they did not want you to know.

Continue

I. The Discovery

You Have Already Felt It.
You Just Didn’t Have a Name for It.

You have walked into a room and felt something shift before a single word was spoken. You have sat beside a person in distress and felt your presence, not your words, not your advice, just your presence change the quality of the air between you. You have held someone you love and felt, with a certainty that had no rational explanation, that something moved from your body into theirs.

This is not metaphor. It is not sentiment. It is the operation of a real, documented, measurable force, a force that physicians, physiologists, mathematicians, and philosophers spent two centuries investigating, cataloguing, and confirming and which the medical establishment of the 19th century voted to bury because it threatened everything they were building their power upon.

The name they gave it was Animal Magnetism. The name it is more widely known by is Mesmerism. And what William Lang and Rev. Chauncey Hare Townshend documented in 1844 – the text at the heart of this Blair University course is one of the most comprehensive, rigorously witnessed, and deliberately erased bodies of evidence in the history of Western science.

“There exists a fluid diffused throughout all nature; the principle of life and motion. It is by means of this fluid that our nerves receive sensations. Man possesses an internal sense, of which the entire nervous system is the organ.”

— Tardy de Montravel, early mesmeric theorist

Before Dr. Blair spent fifty years teaching that consciousness was a field, before every energy healer, every practitioner of Reiki or chi cultivation or therapeutic touch, these men were publishing clinical case records, getting hauled before academic commissions, losing their professorships, and refusing to recant because what they had seen with their own eyes could not be unseen.

II. The Suppression

Benjamin Franklin Signed the Report.
He Wasn’t Even in the Room.

In 1784, the French government issued a royal mandate to the medical faculty of Paris: investigate Mesmer’s claims. The commission assembled included some of the most celebrated names in 18th-century science. Benjamin Franklin’s name appears on the final report, despite the fact that, as Lang carefully documents, Franklin was indisposed and gave little attention to the proceedings.

The Commission’s conclusion was not that the phenomena were false. Their conclusion was that Mesmer’s proposed theory, the universal fluid, was unproven. The phenomena themselves? Many were admitted. What they buried was not the evidence. What they buried was the framework that made the evidence meaningful, then quietly watched as the entire subject was dragged down with it.

The Pattern

Galileo. Semmelweis. Royal Lee. Wilhelm Reich. Dr. John Elliotson – stripped of his professorship at University College London for refusing to abandon mesmeric research after the establishment decided the question was closed. The conscious community recognizes this template because we have lived inside it. Knowledge that empowers individuals to heal themselves and each other will be attacked by institutions built on managing the sick, not curing them.

Commissioner Jussieu – the one member who actually took the evidence seriously published a separate, dissenting report presenting an infinitely more favorable view of the subject. He was ignored. Forty-two years later, the French Commission of 1826 came to substantially more favorable conclusions. Those conclusions were buried too.

This is not ancient history. The same force that removed Mesmerism from the curriculum of Western medicine is the same force that removed botanical medicine, nutritional science, and consciousness research. When Dr. Blair taught you that the system was designed to manage you, not heal you, this is what he was talking about. Here is the paper trail.

Early 1600s

Van Helmont and William Maxwell document the transmission of healing force between bodies, propositions nearly identical to those Mesmer would later formalize.

1776

Frederick Anton Mesmer publishes his dissertation on planetary influence and the human body, formally naming the force Animal Magnetism and beginning documented clinical practice in Vienna and Paris.

1784

The French Commission – including Franklin, whose name was used without his active participation, issues a hostile report targeting Mesmer’s theory while quietly admitting many of the phenomena. Dr. Jussieu’s favorable dissenting report is suppressed.

1787 – 1826

Despite the Commission’s report, mesmeric practice spreads across Europe. Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Russia, and France all conduct serious institutional investigations. The 1826 French Commission issues favorable conclusions and is largely ignored.

1838

Dr. John Elliotson, among England’s most distinguished physicians, is forced to resign his professorship at University College London for refusing to abandon mesmeric research after producing documented surgical results. The Lancet, which had once praised him, leads the attack.

1844

William Lang and Rev. Townshend publish the complete mesmeric record – history, theory, classification, methods, cases, and metaphysical implications as an act of preservation against the closure already underway. This is the text you will study in this course.

III. The Witnesses

These Were Not Fringe Speculators.
These Were the Most Qualified Minds of Their Age.

One of the first lines of defense against suppressed knowledge is the claim that it was only believed by the credulous, the uneducated, the desperate. Let the record correct that.

La Place · Mathematician

“We are so far from being acquainted with all the agents of nature that it would be quite unphilosophical to deny the existence of the phenomena merely because they are inexplicable.”

Cuvier · Physiologist

Fully admits the truth of Mesmerism, arguing that effects observed in unconscious subjects could not be attributed to imagination, they arose from “some nervous communication established between their nervous systems.”

Dr. John Elliotson · Physician

“I have no hesitation in declaring my conviction… these phenomena result from a specific power, a power acting constantly in all living things, vegetable and animal, but shown in a peculiar manner by the processes of Mesmerism.”

Rev. Townshend · Theologian

Documents the conversion of an avowed materialist through direct mesmeric experience, a man who, dying, credited Mesmerism with reclaiming him from the disease of unbelief and restoring his understanding of spirit’s predominance over matter.

General Lafayette – hero of the American Revolution and personal friend of George Washington wrote in his English letters that Mesmer had “made the greatest discovery upon Animal Magnetism” and identified himself as one of Mesmer’s most enthusiastic students. The conscious community does not get to be dismissed as a fringe. Neither did they.

IV. The Phenomena

She Read Cards in Complete Darkness.
Her Eyes Were Sealed Shut.

Jane C. Rider of Springfield, Massachusetts – a 17-year-old girl, daughter of a respectable mechanic was a natural somnambulist. While in a state of somnambulism, with her eyes tightly closed, she threaded needles and sewed in a room from which all light had been utterly excluded. She read cards that observers could not read even under lamplight. She identified the date on coins whose markings were nearly obliterated.

A visitor handed her a letter and asked her to read the motto on the seal. She read it readily. Several people in the room had been unable to decipher it with the aid of a lamp. The event was documented, witnessed by multiple named individuals, and published.

This is not an isolated case. The text you will study contains case after case, a student in Göttingen who played Bach on a harpsichord while clinically unconscious and noticed a string out of tune, stopped, corrected it, and continued; a rope-maker who continued his work with full competence while completely insensible to pain and the report of a pistol fired beside his ear; a young woman in Glasgow who described a stranger’s home in precise detail which rooms held which people and what each person was doing.

“The same individual, when awake and when somnambulist, appears like two entirely different persons as if he had two souls, one for the state of sleep and the other for the period when he was awake.”

— Documented case report, Transactions of the Medical Society of Breslau

What these investigators documented, systematically, across decades of clinical observation, is this: human consciousness has a mode of operation that does not depend on the physical senses. The personality you identify with is not the whole of what you are. There is another you, deeper and more capacious that can perceive across space, transmit sensation across distance, and operate the body with a precision the waking self cannot approach.

THE SPECTRUM OF MESMERIC STATES — KLUGE’S CLASSIFICATION

I
Waking

Ordinary consciousness. The intellect and senses at full ordinary capacity. This is where most people spend their entire lives unaware that five more states exist above them.

II
Half Sleep

The senses begin to withdraw. Vision dims. The eye begins to disengage from the will. Most enter this state every night in the minutes before sleep and do not know what it is.

III
Magnetic Sleep

The external senses suspend. The patient becomes unconscious to the ordinary world. The deepest form is induced by practice; its natural form visits everyone.

IV
Perfect Crisis — Simple Somnambulism

Consciousness returns from within. The patient is awake inside a different order of reality no longer sleeping, no longer waking in the ordinary sense. This is where the documented cases begin.

V
Lucidity — Clairvoyance

Self-intuition. The patient perceives their own internal condition with medical precision, identifies appropriate remedies and can do the same for others placed in energetic rapport. Jane C. Rider was here.

VI
Universal Lucidity

The clairvoyance of the fifth degree extends without apparent limit to distant places, forward in time, and into dimensions of perception for which the investigators had no adequate vocabulary except the spiritual. Rare. Documented. Real.

V. The Practice

This Is Not History.
This Is a Manual.

Chapter V of the text that forms the core of this course is not a philosophical treatise. It is a step-by-step operational protocol. Deleuze’s instructions, still among the most precise practical records in the historical literature describe hand positions, pass directions, the equalization of thermal energy between operator and subject, the specific intention required, and the terminal clearing protocols that restore balance at the end of a session.

Every Reiki practitioner reading this will recognize the structure. Every energy worker who uses hand positions and directional intention will recognize the mechanics. Every traditional healer who has been taught that the operator’s own health and clarity are non-negotiable will recognize the warning Lang repeats from multiple schools: do not operate when you are depleted. What moves through you is real, and it flows both ways.

“The operator must perform the whole business with earnestness and with a serious desire of removing the morbid symptoms. The apartment ought to be kept as quiet as possible.”

— Zoo-Magnetic Journal, operational protocols, 1840s

This course will not just teach you about this practice. It will ask you to build your own protocol from the methods documented across multiple schools. It will ask you to practice it on yourself or with a willing partner within the thirty days following the course. Knowledge without application is incomplete. That is a Blair University principle, and it is built into every assignment.

VI. The Legacy

Dr. Blair Said Consciousness Is a Field.
Here Is the 19th-Century Scientific Record That Proves It.

For fifty years, Dr. Delbert Blair taught the conscious community that the human being is not a body with a spirit tucked inside it, it is a consciousness that wears a body like an instrument. He taught that healing moves through intention, through presence, through the energetic field generated by a prepared and sovereign individual.

Rev. Townshend, writing in 1844, said it this way: he wanted to demonstrate the predominance of spirit over matter to draw attention from visible shadows to the changeless substances from which those shadows fall. He had watched Mesmerism reclaim a dying materialist from the worst disease he had ever witnessed, not cancer, not fever, the disease of a soul that had been persuaded it did not exist.

This is the tradition Blair University exists to carry forward. Not because it is old. Not because it is exotic. Because it is true and the conscious community has always known it was true, and now you will have the documented historical record to hold alongside that knowing.
