In John Carpenter’s They Live, a drifter named Nada discovers a hidden truth: the world is being controlled by non-human entities using subliminal messaging and media manipulation to enslave humanity. With the help of a special pair of sunglasses, Nada sees through the illusion — exposing commands like “OBEY” and “CONSUME” embedded in advertising, and revealing the ghoulish faces of the elite overlords masquerading as humans. As he joins a small underground resistance, Nada must decide whether to risk everything to awaken a society that would rather stay asleep. The film is a biting exposé of propaganda, conformity, and the high cost of seeing the truth.
